Cultural Department discusses the issue of historic cemetery of Jawhar Mosque in Crater

Mr. Amr Mohammad Aqeel, head of the Cultural Department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, met on Tuesday, with head of “My Identity” initiative, Dr. Jacqueline Mansour Al-Batani, and the imam of Jawhar Mosque, Sheikh Moaz Ghazi.

The meeting, which was attended by Dr. Bassem Mansour, head of the media department in the General Secretariat, discussed the issue of allegations of ownership of Jawhar cemetery, which belongs to the historic Jawhar Mosque in Crater, which was built 800 years ago.

The imam of the Jawhar Mosque submitted to the Cultural Department a file explaining the details of the case affecting one of the historic mosques in the capital, Aden, and one of its Islamic landmarks.

The meeting stressed the importance of developing a plan to study this issue and sit with the responsible authorities that would find the necessary solutions to protect Jawhar Mosque and its cemetery.
