Major General Bin Brik receives Director of Special Envoy Office of Secretary-General of United Nations in Aden the capital

Major General Ahmed Saeed Bin Brik, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council, the Chairman of the National Assembly, on Sunday, received the Director of the Office of the Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the capital, Aden, Mr. Peter Rice.

In the meeting, which included Brigadier General Nasser Al-Saadi, member of the Presidency of the Council, Major General Ahmed Saeed Bin Brik welcomed Mr. Peter, the new Director of the Office of the UN Envoy in the capital, Aden, wishing him continued success in his new business tasks, stressing the support of the Council leadership, and providing him with all necessary facilities for the success of his work, and the continuous keenness of the Transitional Council to ensure the success of all efforts being made to bring peace to our country.

The Acting President provided a detailed explanation about the difficult political, military, economic and humanitarian conditions in the country, and the efforts made by the Council towards addressing these conditions, and the facilities provided by the leadership of the Transitional Council for the return of the government to the capital, Aden, and the exercise of its tasks, in order to activate state institutions and provide public services , and improve the economic and humanitarian situation to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Major General Bin Brik affirmed the Council’s support for the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General in all steps that would lead to the start of a comprehensive political process and the success of his humanitarian endeavors to achieve peace, stressing the importance of the speedy formation of the joint negotiating delegation and the need to involve the Transitional Council in all stages of the comprehensive political settlements process as a major party active, pointing out to the Council’s keenness and interest in the accurate implementation of the Riyadh Agreement concluded between the Transitional Council and the government, noting that the Riyadh Agreement represents an important station and point in consolidating the foundations of the political process and establishing peace.

For his part, the Director of the Office of the Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the capital, Aden, Mr. Peter, presented an explanation of his duties in the office of the UN Envoy in the capital, Aden, noting that the priorities of the new UN envoy, Mr. Hans Grundberg, are to make efforts to stop the war and establish comprehensive peace in Yemen through meeting with all political parties and conflicting forces since 2015 to gather all the ideas to be put forward in a way that contributes to the success of the peace process.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Anis Luqman, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and Nasr Harhara, Rapporteur of the National Assembly, and Ali Mohammed Al-Bakri, Head of the Services Committee, and Abdel Fattah Muthanna Qassem, Head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly, and Brigadier Ahmed Hassan, Director of the Security Department of the Transitional Council, and Ahmed Qassem, Director of the Office of the Chairman of the Assembly.
